MARCUS BOREN JOINS FREEDOM INNOVATIONS BRINGING BENEFIT OF EXPERIENCE AS AMPUTEE AND PROSTHETIST

CORONA, Calif. (February 10, 2003) - Freedom Innovations, which launched the Freedom Series line of prosthetic feet in October, announced today that Certified Prosthetist,

Marcus Boren, has joined the firm as lead Clinical and Research Prosthetist. Boren, a single amputee resulting from a 1988 car accident, will bring the benefit of his personal experience in his role working with the design of new feet and educating prosthetists worldwide about the Freedom Innovations line.

Involved in the prosthetic field since 1993 and specializing in lower extremity amputees, Boren was Certified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC) in 2002. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mesa State College, a Prosthetic Technician Diploma from Century College and a Prosthetic Practitioner Diploma. While serving his residency in Michigan, Boren also published the first digital text of an updated revision for the Prosthetic Principles for Upper Extremity Amputations, which was originally published in 1950 by the Prosthetic-Orthotics Education Program-Division of Orthopedic Surgery of the University of California, Los Angeles. Boren resides in Fayette, Utah with his wife and their two sons.

As an amputee, Boren has more than 15 years of experience personally using a variety of high-performance composite feet.

"I entered the field of prosthetics because I was unhappy with the best there was to offer at that time, and wanted to make a difference not only for myself, but for other amputees as well," Boren said. "I am thrilled that Freedom Innovations has given me the chance to contribute to the lives of not only my clients, but to amputees all over the world."

Since joining the firm, Boren said he has received consistently positive and enthusiastic response from prosthetists and amputees regarding the new line of Freedom Series feet, in which amputees gain what the industry has lacked-quality prosthetic feet for a wide range of activity levels at affordable prices, Boren said.

"The Freedom Series delivers artificial feet that are versatile, smooth and strong enough to be appropriate for 95 percent of moderate- and high-activity level amputees," Boren said.

Freedom Series Features
The Freedom Series contains two basic elements that help vary the foot's stiffness according to the user's needs. Each foot consists of carbon-fiber composite materials to deliver lightweight, yet strong and resilient performance. The interlocking design eliminates potential "stress concentrations" caused by bolt connections. The full-length sole plate removes "dead spots," guaranteeing smooth transition throughout the gait cycle. This patent-pending design also features a "soft toe" to also assist in a smoother rollover.
