Freedom Innovations Reaches Out
to Amputees from Mexico

CORONA, Calif. (September 23, 2003) - Hector Graceano, a 31-year-old amputee, needed a crutch to lean on so he could operate a street taco stand in Los Cabos, Mexico. Today, thanks to a chance encounter with Ron Harding Sr., he walks without a crutch. Harding, who works for Freedom Innovations, an advanced prosthetics manufacturer based on Corona, California arranged for the prosthetic "Freedom foot" to be donated to Graceano.
Graceano's foot and knee were amputated four years ago due to his diabetic condition. Harding helped Graceano gain a visa, hosted his visit to the factory, coordinated the donation and fitting of his new prosthesis worth nearly $10,000 USD. Harding also said Kevin Carey of Prosthetics, Etc. in Anaheim, donated significant time and materials.
Speaking through an interpreter, Graceano said he wished he could tell Harding how much he appreciates the assistance.
"I am really happy and grateful to Ron and Kevin. I never dreamed I would be able to walk again without a crutch," said Graceano who is one of eight children in his family, all of whom must help earn money for food. He lives on a small farm with no running water, electricity or telephone service.
Harding also arranged for the donation of prosthetic feet for 30-year-old, Marco Antonio Cantreras, a policeman in Los Cabos, Mexico, who lost his leg in a car accident.
Richard Myers, President and Chief Operating Officer of Freedom Innovations, said these donations reflect his corporate goal of helping amputees worldwide achieve active lifestyles.
"Many people, particularly in Mexico, cannot afford prosthetics and must live inactive lifestyles," Myers said. "When Ron brought these two cases to us, we wanted to help them return to their lives with the ability to walk, even run again."
