Freedom Innovations Opens Headquarters in Inland Empire
New Company Co-Founded by Foothill Ranch-Resident Richard Myers

CORONA, Calif. (September 23, 2002) - Foothill Ranch-resident Richard N. Myers, Jr. has co-founded Freedom Innovations, Inc., an advanced-technology prosthetics manufacturer. The new firm will operate from headquarters in Corona, Calif., where Myers said the focus is to deliver high quality and affordable prosthetics for lower-limb amputees.

Myers, serving as president and chief operating officer, brings to the company more than 15 years of experience in executive management in the medical device industry. He specializes in building teams for established and early-stage development companies

Before founding Freedom Innovations, Myers served as president and COO of Medical Instruments Technology, a leading provider of third-party device reprocessing services to hospitals throughout the United States, and as vice president of global manufacturing for Ossur, Inc., a $70 million supplier of prosthetic products and services. His distinguished career also includes executive positions with Baxter Healthcare, a global leader in the treatment of late-stage cardiovascular disease, and Steri-Oss, Inc., a leading dental implant company.

Myers graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry (Biochemistry concentration) from Southern California College. Myers is also a high school teacher in Science and Math with the Saddleback Christian Academy, which is one of the largest home-school networks in Orange County, Calif. Myers remains active with Redeeming Grace Presbyterian Church. He and wife Megan, have been married 22 years and have four children, David, Benjamin, Owen and Alex.

Freedom Innovations will operate administrative, sales, training and selected research and development functions of manufacturing prosthetics in the 8,000 square-foot facility at 2451 Pomona Rincon Road in the Pomona Rincon Industrial Center. Industrial broker Lee & Associates managed the leasing arrangements. The company also runs a manufacturing facility in Fayette, Utah.

Prosthetists, physicians and business owners attending the 2002 American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) National Assembly in Chicago next month (October 9-12 at the Chicago Hyatt Regency) will see the formal debut of the company and product line of artificial feet, called the Freedom Series.

Myers co-founded Freedom Innovations earlier this year with two other medical device manufacturing specialists, Roland Christensen, Ph.D., chief executive officer, and James Gordon, director of operations. The company's mission is to be a global innovator and leader in evolving prosthetic products, creating a revolution in motion and freedom of activity.

With the Freedom Series product line, amputees gain what the industry has lacked-quality prosthetic feet for a wide range of activity levels at affordable prices, according to Myers.

Each foot in the FS Series is designed with two basic key elements - the upper member that is coupled to the amputee, and the lower member comprised of the heel and toe.

Using the company's patented system, energy is transferred between both members to vary the foot's stiffness according to the user's needs.

"The amputee is often forced to use one prosthesis for normal, everyday ambulation and another for more strenuous or athletic activity," Myers said. "We created the Freedom Series so prosthetists can fit amputees with a comfortable artificial limb that is strong enough to withstand high levels of activity."
