Controls Systems Engineer

Research and Development | Irvine, California


Control Systems Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle of embedded controls development for the company’s microprocessor controlled prosthetic products, including research, data analysis, requirements, risk analysis, design, documentation, development, validation, and verification of all controls related components.


• Design, develop, and document control algorithms for new products, and support sustaining efforts for existing products
• Work directly with human subjects during all product development phases
• Collaborate with Marketing, Clinical, and Engineering team members to determine feasibility, scope, and feature sets of new control systems
• Conduct research projects to advance innovation in lower limb prosthetics
• Participate in writing product requirements and performing risk analysis

Education and Experience

• Engineering M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Control Systems, Mechanical, Biomechanics, or Mechatronics
• 5+ years of experience designing and developing control systems
• 5+ years of hands-on embedded software engineering experience
• High proficiency using software development tools/languages such as MATLAB, Simulink, LabVIEW, C, C++, and/or Python
• Ability to build trust and productive rapport with a variety of human subjects


• Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
• Excellent logical and analytical skills, and a passion for quality and excellence
• Strong familiarity with human gait, prosthetics, or biomechanics
• Experience with motion control, robotics, and signal processing
• Working knowledge of software development lifecycle, agile development, unit and functional test methodologies
• Solid understanding of design controls and risk management highly desired
• Experience with C, C++, C#, or similar languages highly desired
• Knowledge of FDA, IEC, and ISO medical device standards desired

Manufacturing Technician Lead

Manufacturing | Irvine, California


Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Lead Manufacturing Technician is responsible for assembly, testing and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical assemblies for Freedom Innovations and providing guidance to manufacturing technicians and overseeing workflow through their area.


• Plans and lays out work to meet production and schedule requirements.
• Provide guidance and training to other manufacturing technicians
• Responsible for preparing and assembling materials.
• Responsible for testing products or subassemblies for functionality or quality.
• Troubleshoots problems with equipment, devices or products.
• Sets up and operates production equipment in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
• Performs specific skills that are needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Must be capable of using measuring equipment as well as different types of bonding adhesives.
• Partners with engineering in developing, building, or testing prototypes or new products, processes, or procedures.
• Ensure that quality standards are met.
• Demonstrate in-depth understanding of function and application of product.
• Must work with and understand instructions in order to operate all production machinery efficiently and in a safe manner.
• Perform light equipment PM and repair
• Support value stream continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
• Analyze and identify trends and resolve root cause for products and processes that represent excessive waste, scrap, labor, re-work or customer returns
• Must fill out daily reports and/or production logs.
• Works as a leader and a member of a Team.

Education and Experience

• Technical Degree or formal training from accredited school preferred
• Minimum high school education required
• Must be able to read and follow manufacturing work instructions and diagrams.
• Minimum 5 years leadership experience in experience in a production environment
• Experience in mechanical and/or electro-mechanical assemblies preferred
• Experience in hydraulic assemblies preferred
• Demonstrated use of hand tools (torque drivers, arbor press, screwdrivers, allen wrenches)
• Must be able to perform multiple tasks independently after being given specific instructions.
• Experience with electrical and mechanical measurement devices.


• Good communication skills are a must. Needs to be able to communicate issues that he/she may see on the line or the product clearly to supervisor and engineers
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
• Ability to provide guidance to others in an effective and professional manner
• Ability to problem solve independently and with others.
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite applications, database information sources and web applications
• Willingness to learn new skills


• Manual dexterity sufficient to use hand and powered tools.
• Ability to stand, crouch, and sit for extended periods of time and to perform various types of manual labor.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
